Do you know what hot mopping is? The process by which hot tar is applied to the shower pan's floor is called hot mopping. This process is generally employed to use during the process of shower's installation. This mechanism works on the principal that dried thick layer of tar would prevent the leakage thus, stopping the damage of sub floor. When, thick layer of tar gets dried up, a water proof seal is formed that further prevents the leakage and thus, protecting the sub floor that comes under shower. Things have changed now and more advanced options are available for the comfortable hot mopping process for hot mop shower pan.

Things that are required for comfortable hot moping of hot mop shower pan include trowel, mortar, spray attachment, garden hose, a plastic bucket of about 5 gallon capacity, Asphalt kettle melter, tar mop,  a paint brush, scissors, drain cap, 15 lb perforated felt sheet, fiberglass webbing. These materials are must and without them, you can't get completed with the process of hot mop shower pan.

To start with the procedure of hot mop shower pan, a layer of ¼ inch in thickness of dry mortar is to be spread. Surface smoothness and evenness is a crucial part. Therefore, you should employ the use of trowel to make the surface even. Here concept of proper slope should be kept in mind for the proper drainage of water. Garden hose is then required to attach with spray attachment. Then, set this spray to fine mist spray from the mist should be well regulated otherwise whole smooth grout surface will be disturbed due to the water from hose.

Then, plastic asphalt cement is required to be added into the asphalt kettle for hot mop shower pan. Optimum temperature required for the proper functioning is about 425 and 475 degrees in Fahrenheit. You have to then wait for its proper melting to have perfect paint. Then, bucket is to be half filled with tar from the asphalt which you will obtain. Trowel or a brush is then required to be dipped into the bucket. Spread an even layer of the center drain.

Then place three pieces of 15 lb sheet that was perforated to carefully place the hot mop shower pan. It would be better if you somehow manage to place a piece of felt on hot asphalt's top. Then, try to walk cautiously over this as this will help in proper security. Then, you have to just repeat the process and then, cut a proper hole for drainage system. Utility knife can be used to do this. Then, place the top layer of asphalt and seal it.
